Garnet Health is marking National Volunteer Week 2025 by celebrating the dedication of its volunteers. The organization emphasizes that “Service Is Our Commitment to the Community” is a guiding principle for its Volunteer Services team and the individuals who offer their time and efforts to assist others. In 2024 alone, over 220 volunteers provided more than 18,850 hours of service, which is valued at over $702,900. Volunteers at Garnet Health work in more than 100 areas across hospitals, outpatient sites, and clerical offices, significantly impacting patient and visitor experiences.
The organization acknowledges long-serving volunteers, including Steve Grossman, Toni McGibbon, and Eileen Ernst, who collectively have contributed more than 95 years of service. Their leadership and dedication make them key figures in the organization’s mission.
Approximately 100 student volunteers also join Garnet Health each year, ranging from high school students to those pursuing higher education. They contribute across various departments such as neuroscience, pediatrics, and cardiology. Moreover, these students support Community Health initiatives, like assisting food-insecure patients through the Food Farmacy, where 15,000 pounds of food were distributed this year.
Several student volunteers have pursued careers in healthcare, with Garnet Health citing individuals who have entered medical and nursing school or become registered nurses and other healthcare professionals. The organization takes pride in employing 37 former student volunteers in various roles within its facilities.
Beyond supporting Garnet Health, volunteers also contribute to several local and regional organizations, expanding their influence throughout Orange and Sullivan Counties.
Garnet Health also honored Norma Selman, a volunteer who retired after reaching 100 years of age, for her long-standing dedication and inspiring legacy.
The organization expressed gratitude, stating that it would not be the same without its volunteers’ energy, dedication, and compassion.
