Garnet Health has introduced Farapulse, a new pulsed field ablation (PFA) system, at its Medical Center in Middletown, New York. This innovative technology is designed to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib), offering a safer and more precise minimally invasive solution compared to traditional methods.

Atrial fibrillation is characterized by an irregular and rapid heart rate that can increase the risk of stroke or heart failure if untreated. Conventional ablation procedures use either heat or cold to destroy the problematic heart tissue, which can inadvertently damage surrounding structures. The PFA system utilizes high-energy, nonthermal electrical pulses to target and disable faulty heart cells with precision, minimizing the risk of collateral damage.

Dr. Paul Eugenio, Electrophysiology Medical Director at Garnet Health Medical Center, stated: “Patients treated for AFib via the pulsed field ablation procedure can look forward to faster recovery time, improved outcomes and a renewed quality of life.” He expressed enthusiasm about offering this treatment locally to ensure patients receive optimal care close to home.

Heart disease remains a leading cause of death in Orange and Sullivan counties. Garnet Health is committed to expanding its cardiac care program within the Hudson Valley region.
