Rep. Pat Ryan, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 18th district and the first West Point graduate to represent the Academy in Congress, has highlighted concerns about healthcare access for his community in a series of posts on July 31, 2025.
In his first post, Ryan emphasized his responsibility to ensure quality healthcare, stating: “As the first West Point graduate to represent the Academy in Congress, I have a solemn duty to ensure that our entire community has access to high-quality health care. He further criticized former President Donald Trump’s healthcare plan, noting its broader implications: “Trump’s plan doesn’t just hurt the West Point community. It’s a drag on recruitment, preparedness, and will put additional strain on an already struggling civilian health network in the Hudson Valley.” (July 31, 2025).
Later that day, Ryan announced local outreach efforts for veterans: “Tomorrow my team is bringing the C.A.R.E.S. Van to the MHA Veterans Picnic in Poughkeepsie! If you need assistance with VA benefits, requesting military records, or navigating another federal program, my team will be there with the one-on-one support you deserve.” (July 31, 2025).
Pat Ryan has represented New York’s 18th district since 2022 after replacing Antonio Delgado and previously served in the New York House of Representatives. He was born in Kingston, New York in 1982 and currently resides in Gardiner. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a BS degree earned in 2004, Ryan draws on his military background as he addresses issues affecting veterans and military families.
