Rep. Pat Ryan, who represents New York’s 18th district in the U.S. Congress, shared a series of updates on social media this week covering local accolades, immigration enforcement concerns, and constituent outreach initiatives.
On July 21, Ryan highlighted Poughkeepsie’s recognition as one of the nation’s top cities, stating: “Excited to see Poughkeepsie make the list of the country’s 100 best cities again this year! From dynamic local businesses to stellar food, the Hudson Valley has so much to offer.”
Later that day, Ryan addressed increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in his district. He wrote: “In the last several weeks, we’ve seen ICE ramp up its presence in the Hudson Valley, often with no communication or identification – the case of Gerson Turcios is yet another unacceptable example. Trump said he’d focus on violent criminals; instead he’s snatching law-abiding” (posted July 21).
The following morning, Ryan announced an upcoming visit from his C.A.R.E.S. Van team to several communities for direct assistance with federal programs and benefits: “Attention Slate Hill, Wappingers Falls & Westtown! My C.A.R.E.S. Van team is coming to YOU tomorrow with direct, one-on-one support. If you need help navigating a federal program, or accessing your benefits stop by! Details below:” (posted July 22).
Ryan has served in Congress since 2022 after replacing Antonio Delgado and previously held office in the New York House of Representatives. Born in Kingston in 1982 and currently residing in Gardiner, Ryan graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2004.
