U.S. Congressman Pat Ryan, representing New York’s 18th district, highlighted the contributions of local firefighters and farmers in a series of posts on August 5, 2025.
In his first message, Ryan praised recent additions to the county’s emergency services. On August 5, he wrote: “Our firefighters are heroes – bravely running towards danger to keep our families safe around the clock. A huge congratulations to Ulster County’s newest firefighters! THANK YOU for your tremendous service to our Hudson Valley communities.”
Later that day, Ryan turned his attention to agricultural issues facing his district. At 19:34 UTC on August 5, he stated: “Our Hudson Valley farmers fuel our families & local economy. They deserve policies that prioritize them, but Trump & @SecRollins are decimating our farmers & local food system. I’m standing with our farmers, food banks, & leaders across NY-18’s food system to demand better “
In a subsequent post at nearly the same time, Ryan criticized current federal trade policies and their impact on small businesses in the region: “Trump’s barrage of ego-fueled tariffs, are driving up operating costs & squeezing small businesses & farms already struggling to make ends meet. The president’s cronies getting a massive payout while Hudson Valley businesses go under is fundamentally un-American.”
Ryan has represented New York’s 18th District in Congress since 2022 after succeeding Antonio Delgado and previously served in the New York House of Representatives. Born in Kingston in 1982 and currently residing in Gardiner, Ryan is also a graduate of the United States Military Academy (2004).
