U.S. Representative Pat Ryan, who serves New York’s 18th district, used his social media platform on July 30, 2025, to highlight the 60th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid and reaffirm his commitment to defending these programs.
In a post marking the milestone, Ryan stated, “Today marks 60 years that Medicare & Medicaid have ensured that Americans can access affordable health care. The current Administration is gutting these programs; I’m fighting every day to protect Medicare & Medicaid for future generations.” (July 30, 2025)
Later that day, he reiterated the importance of these federal healthcare initiatives in another message: “For 60 years, Medicare & Medicaid have served as lifelines for our families & neighbors across the Hudson Valley. My team & I will stop at nothing to help you access them, just like we did for John & his family.” (July 30, 2025)
Ryan also provided constituents with resources for assistance: “If you need assistance with a federal agency, please reach out to us by calling 845-443-2930 or on my website at https://t.co/hlGdZv0Y6d” (July 30, 2025).
Medicare and Medicaid were both signed into law in July 1965 and have since played significant roles in providing healthcare coverage for older adults and low-income individuals across the United States. Representative Pat Ryan has represented New York’s 18th District in Congress since replacing Antonio Delgado in 2022. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the New York House of Representatives. Born in Kingston in 1982 and currently residing in Gardiner, Ryan graduated from the United States Military Academy in 2004.
