Renée Ozomek has been appointed as the new municipal assessor for the City of Newburgh, according to an announcement by City Manager Todd Venning. Ozomek brings over twenty years of experience in property assessment and municipal tax administration to her new role.
“The municipal assessor plays a fundamental role in maintaining equality and consistency in our property tax system,” said Venning. “Accurate assessments are essential for municipal finances and public trust. Ms. Ozomek brings deep technical expertise, strong knowledge of New York State real property tax law, and extensive experience working directly with property owners and municipal officials. I am pleased to appoint Ms. Ozomek to this important position.”
The assessor is responsible for overseeing the Office of Assessments, valuing more than 6,900 parcels annually, and keeping the city’s assessment roll at a uniform percentage of market value as required by New York State law. The office also manages the city’s Property Record Online System (PROS), which allows residents and property owners to access information on assessments, exemptions, comparable sales, and property descriptions through an interactive website.
Before joining Newburgh, Ozomek served as an assessor in Wawarsing and previously held similar positions in Liberty, Delaware, and Highland. She also worked as a senior real estate appraiser for Yonkers. Her credentials include several advanced professional certifications such as the I.A.O. designation from the New York State Assessors Association—the highest credential available for assessors in New York State. Ozomek graduated from the State University of New York at New Paltz and the Dalcroze School of Music.
Ozomek will work with experienced staff members to ensure that property owners have year-round access to accurate information and timely service.
