Renée Ozomek has been appointed as the new City Assessor, according to an announcement from City Manager Todd Venning. Ozomek brings over two decades of experience in real property valuation and municipal assessment administration.

“The City Assessor plays a critical role in maintaining fairness and consistency in our property tax system,” said City Manager Todd Venning. “Accurate assessments are foundational to municipal finance and public trust. Ms. Ozomek brings deep technical expertise, strong knowledge of New York State real property tax law, and extensive experience working directly with property owners and municipal officials. I am pleased to appoint Ms. Ozomek to this important role.”

The City Assessor oversees the Bureau of Assessments, which is responsible for valuing more than 6,900 parcels each year and keeping the city’s assessment roll at a uniform percentage of market value as required by New York State law. The Bureau also manages the Property Record Online System (PROS), which provides residents and property owners with access to assessment data, exemptions, comparable sales, and property descriptions through an online platform. More information about the Bureau’s work can be found on the city’s website: https://www.cityofnewburgh-ny.gov/157/Assessor

Before joining the City of Newburgh, Ozomek served as Assessor for the Town of Wawarsing and previously held similar roles in Liberty, Delaware, Highland, as well as Senior Real Property Appraiser for Yonkers. She holds several advanced professional certifications including the I.A.O., which is recognized as the highest credential for assessors in New York State. Her educational background includes degrees from SUNY New Paltz and the Dalcroze School of Music.

Ozomek will collaborate with experienced staff at the Bureau to provide accurate information and responsive service throughout the year.
