Rep. Pat Ryan, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 18th district, addressed the recent closure of the Newburgh-Beacon Ferry in a series of tweets on July 30, 2025. Ryan expressed concern over the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) decision and called for action to restore service to the Hudson Valley community.
In his first tweet, Ryan stated, “Our community is coming together to demand what that the MTA owes us. The Hudson Valley will not accept this betrayal of public trust – I’ll fight like hell to get this service restored, whatever it takes.” (July 30, 2025).
He further highlighted local reaction and political response in a subsequent post: “The Hudson Valley is rightly outraged over the closure of our Newburgh-Beacon Ferry. Today, I joined a bipartisan group of elected officials in submitting public comment demanding better of our MTA.” (July 30, 2025).
