Over the years, Assembly District 98 has witnessed the courage of many veterans. State Rep. Karl A. Brabenec, whose father served in the U.S. Navy and later joined the New York City Police Department, has actively participated in various community events supporting veterans.
Since his election to the New York State Assembly in 2014, Brabenec has introduced several proposals aimed at assisting veterans transitioning back to civilian life. Among these is proposal A.4767, which sought to increase civil service credits for returning veterans to aid their employment prospects. Although this proposal did not pass, Brabenec remains committed to reintroducing similar initiatives.
Additionally, Brabenec proposed A.4769 and A.6158 to support families of deceased service members by allowing spouses and children of military personnel killed in action to apply for civil service positions under competitive status.
As National Hire a Veteran Day approaches on July 25, 2025, Brabenec emphasizes the importance of acknowledging veterans’ heroism and aiding their transition back into everyday life. The day aims to assist returning military personnel with job-hunting and highlights the value of hiring veterans.
Brabenec extends his gratitude to active troops serving overseas and acknowledges the unparalleled service of local veterans in Assembly District 98.
