This summer, New York state has experienced some of the highest temperatures on record. Syracuse was forecast to reach 97°F on August 12, 2025, matching a record set in 1944. Across the state, heat waves have led to several New York State Mesonet Stations reporting new highs. For example, a station in the Bronx recorded a network high of 100.6°F, and Central Park reached a daily record of 96°F in June.
These conditions present risks for residents across Assembly District 98 and beyond. In response to these extreme temperatures, State Rep. Karl Brabenec and his team have put together energy-saving tips designed to help residents keep cool while managing their energy usage and costs. The recommendations also include information about local resources and programs available to Orange and Rockland county residents.
Brabenec stated: “To stay cool this summer while also keeping energy consumption and spending to a minimum, my team and I have compiled the following energy-saving and potentially life-saving tips to beat the heat.” He added that this list is similar to one sent out in July of 2023 but now includes updated information relevant for this year.
He concluded: “Stay informed, stay cool and stay safe this summer!”
