New York State Senator Maher has returned to Albany to commence the 2025 legislative session. As the new year begins, Maher expressed optimism about the potential for significant progress on issues important to New Yorkers.

"My commitment remains steadfast in advocating for the issues that matter most to our state and the residents of my district," Maher stated. He emphasized his ongoing dedication to serving on the Mental Health and Alcoholism and Drug Abuse committees and announced his new role as ranking Minority member of the Committee on Children and Families. A key focus for Maher this session will be supporting Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), whom he describes as "the men and women on the ground who save lives every day."

Maher also highlighted his eagerness to join the Health, Housing, and Education committees. He plans to address the housing crisis with creative solutions, protect rural school aid from cuts, and support New York's healthcare system.

In addition, Maher aims to have Emergency Medical Services recognized as an essential service and continues to advocate for universal school meals. He is prepared to challenge energy policies that he believes could negatively impact local economies, schools, and environments.

Law enforcement advocacy remains a priority for Maher, especially concerning correction officers facing labor and safety challenges due to extended shifts. He stressed the importance of bipartisan collaboration: "I will continue to focus on collaborating with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle...to find common ground for solutions that benefit all New Yorkers."

Maher's agenda underscores his commitment to strengthening communities, improving affordability, ensuring public safety, and delivering results for constituents across New York.
