Assemblyman Chris Tague and Senator Mark Walczyk have introduced a legislative measure in New York aimed at curbing political suppression. The proposed bill seeks to classify the “suppression or promotion of a political ideology” as criminal mischief in the third degree when it involves property damage.
The legislation comes in response to a series of violent incidents across the country, particularly targeting Tesla car owners, dealerships, and charging stations. These attacks have been linked to Elon Musk’s role in the federal government. The legislators are aiming to prevent similar occurrences in New York State.
“Our country is known for its difference—in ideology, in religion, in culture. That’s what makes us a melting pot. But we never meet that difference with violence, and that’s what we need to correct,” stated Assemblyman Tague.
Senator Walczyk expressed his support for the initiative: “Violence as a tool of protest, especially at the expense of everyday consumers or employees without decision-making power, is unacceptable. I’m proud to partner with Sen. Walczyk on this important issue and fight for common-sense legislation in New York,” Tague concluded.
