Binghamton, NY – Following local concerns over railroad safety and recent deadly weather and snow events in New York, U.S. Rep. Molinaro (NY-19) convened a roundtable discussion on emergency management and preparedness in Binghamton.
Rep. Molinaro was joined by local public officials, emergency managers, fire chiefs, law enforcement, and other first responders. During the roundtable, Rep. Molinaro sought feedback from participants on how the federal government can better support local efforts to prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergency situations.
Rep. Molinaro said, “I decided to hold this roundtable in light of recent deadly weather events and at a time when railroad safety has been top of mind. As a County Executive, I oversaw county-wide emergency preparedness efforts and had to lead our community through difficult times when the unthinkable happens. In my experience, coordination between local, state, and federal partners is essential to effectively prevent and respond to emergencies.”
Rep. Molinaro continued, “I got actionable feedback from those that serve on the frontlines of emergency management on how the federal government can support their work. I want to ensure our communities have the equipment, guidance, and funding they need to effectively prevent, respond, and recover from disasters.”
Rep. Molinaro served for over a decade as a County Executive, where he oversaw emergency management services. Now in Congress, he serves as a member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. Rep. Molinaro has also introduced bipartisan legislation to support overwhelmed rural EMS agencies and is advocating for federal funds to improve rail safety technology
