Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) today broke with Republicans to vote against H.J. Res. 39.

This legislation repeals President Biden’s two year moratorium on new solar tariffs. Repealing this moratorium could force domestic companies, including those in New York’s 19th Congressional District, to pay over $1 billion in retroactive duties, eliminate thousands of domestic jobs, and cancel planned solar projects.

Rep. Molinaro said, “I broke with my own party and voted against today’s legislation because it would kneecap our advances in domestic solar energy and eliminate jobs in Upstate New York. Solar energy producers have made significant investments in our communities and are supporting hundreds of good-paying, local union jobs. We can’t turn our backs on the progress we have made. I said I would be an independent voice for Upstate New York in Congress. I’m proud to be fulfilling this commitment by breaking with my own party to put people over politics.”
