Ulster County: How many students met or exceeded expectations in the English Language Arts test in 2021-22 school year?

Of the 3,016 students in Ulster County who took the 2021-22 English Language Arts test, 30.7% met expectations and 12.9% did better than expected, according to the New York State Education Department.

In total, 43.6% of the students met or exceeded expections in Ulster County, a decrease of 11.2% compared to the previous school year.

Within the county, Marlboro Middle School students performed the best in English Language Arts, with 55% of them considered proficient in the subject. Meanwhile, Chambers School students fared the worst, with only 20% passing the test.

The state registered an overall proficiency rate of 52% of students who met or exceeded expectations.

A 2021 report from the NYC Center for Innovation Through Data Intelligence found that outcomes for different racial and gender groups had improved since 2013. However, despite the improvements, significant gaps still persist, particularly among Black and Hispanic students.
